Kher leads way in Newdigate romp

The Jesters romped home to a 109-run victory against Newdigate. Having been asked to bat, largely due to the fact that only five Jesters had arrived on time, we lost an early wicket when Robbie Hudson creamed a drive straight to extra-cover.

However, Tom Lord and Louis Harris then set about building a solid platform. Louis was timing the ball beautifully and strolled to a 50, before missing a full toss and falling LBW for 51 on the stroke of drinks. Rob Dancey played himself in for two balls before launching one over the top, and scored a quickfire 39, including two huge sixes over long-on.

Sahil Kher was soon stroking the ball to all parts and was the lynchpin of our innings, ably supported by Rowan Clapp (18), less ably by Adnan Mohammed (7) and not at all by DJ Chak and Noah Hillyard (both golden ducks, part of a hat-trick by their opening bowler). Sahil was last to go for 89 (the fifth lbw of the innings) as we closed on 247.

The game was effectively ended as a contest by a superb spell from all-rounder-cum-podcaster Chak, who steamed in down the hill and blew away their top order in an opening spell of 8-1-16-3.

Further wickets came from Mohammed (3), Hillyard (2) and Dancey (1), the latter opening his first bowling spell in 3 years with a beamer that carried to Robbie Hudson (who was standing back) on the full. Harris was unlucky to not take a wicket at the end, landing a ball on the batsman’s toe in front of middle, but Newdigate were never in the chase as we recorded a very comfortable victory.
