Jesters CC 97 all out

Jesus College, Cambridge 101-3

Lost by 7 wickets

After winning the toss on a sunny Cambridge Saturday, we made hard work of it on a newly laid Jesus wicket which was, disappointingly, as dead as a doornail. We mistimed our way to a horrible, stodgy 97 all out in 30 overs. Surely the students will struggle on this too, we said at the interval! Not so as they bludgeoned their way to the target in the 12th over, taking the pitch out the equation with some extraordinary hitting. We didn't even bowl badly - good length balls kept disappearing into the car park. A chastening experience. It's hard to pick out many highlights... ex-Jesus skipper Matt Griffiths bowled very well on debut. Andrew Short held a huge Garryowen at long on. Alex Smith top scored with 16. That's about it.

Still, it gave the weekend squad an opportunity to examine the new College bar in considerable detail and a high-spirited night out followed ahead of the Sunday game against The Woozlers, a brand new fixture that was lost to the rain last season. Thanks to Jesus for having us and for the welcome return of College teas after many years.
