Two wins and a draw on Dorset tour

July 16, 2018

The Jesters recorded an unbeaten Dorset tour for the second year in succession.

We posted 248-9 declared batting first against Hampshire Hogs. Henry Woolf top scored with 67 and Liam Knight scored 59 coming in at number nine before the Hogs were bowled out for 173.

It was deja vu the next day at Bryanston as we piled on the runs again, this time declaring at 241-3. Josh Montgomerie became the second Jesters centurion of the summer with a fine 101*. Saj Zaib, who had put us to the sword as a Bedouin the previous week, continued his good form with an unbeaten 66.

Despite some middle order resistance, the Butterflies' fell well short, all out for 167. There were three wickets for Liam Knight and two each for Blair Tickner and Aashir Zaib.

We batted first for the third day in a row at Canford and racked up an even bigger total, declaring three down with 275 on the board. Saj Zaib made his way to a customary tour hundred (122*), opener Aashir Zaib scored 71 and it was great to see Ponniah Vijendran at the crease again for Jesters, jetting in from Finland to score 42*.

Wickets were once again shared between Zaib (3), Knight (2) and Tickner (2) but the match ended in a draw with Canford on 197-7 when the overs ran out with Ben 'Ironman' Pearce in the unusual role of dropping anchor. Not even an over from nemesis Paul Woolf could tempt him to play a shot in anger.

Thanks as always to Simon Rawson for organising the tour and getting eleven men on the field for each game. And to our three opponents for their tremendous hospitality. Simon's tour report will not appear here any time soon.
